Hail and well-met, fellow travelers!
Not long ago, I conducted a poll to see if there would be any interest in me starting a newsletter of sorts, for those interested in what I do for a living — namely, the nuts and bolts of storytelling and the daunting task of creativity in Hollywood.
The answer was an unequivocal yes.
So, at the behest (and dare I say, inspiration) of some of my colleagues already on here, I’ve decided to open a SubStack so you can follow my journeys, week to week.
I imagine this newsletter dropping on Fridays. Half documenting progress on my current endeavors, half an open forum for suggestions or questions any readers might have about things I’m doing, be they broad or specific to the fun projects I’ve been a part of. I’ll collect any I get and try to answer them semi-regularly.
I’ll also just try to recommend cool stuff I’ve encountered and share them with you.
To that end…
DIVING INTO DC COMICS
Last month, my first comic with DC hit the shelves. It was a story in a fun romance anthology, appropriately titled “How to Lose A Guy Gardner in Ten Days.”
My story, “Robots Are Red, Androids Are Blue”, featuring some astonishing art by Ivan Shavrin, is a bittersweet Red Tornado tale about how relationships change, and change us in return. I’m grateful for the positive reviews!
It’s still on shelves at your local comic book store. There are many wonderful stories in there besides my own. Be sure to check it out!
NOW PLAYING - “KUNG FU PANDA 4”
Last weekend, Kung Fu Panda 4 dropped in theatres — and has been doing quite well, from what I hear. My lovely and talented wife, a creative powerhouse in her own right, worked on the film as a script, story and editorial supervisor on the film. I’m very proud of her.
Incidentally, my daughter also got her first screen credit as a production baby. So she beat me to IMDb by several orders of magnitude, age-wise.
MORE TO COME
Since this is more of a “kickoff” than anything, that’s all for now. Next week, I’ll dive into an overview of my current projects — some of which will need to be codenamed due to NDAs. I’ll also happily answer any questions I get between now and then.
If you are so inclined, subscribe to my newsletter and share it. I’m mostly doing this for those who’d enjoy it, anyhow!
